2nd Level NOC engineer
The Role
DANTE is responsible for implementing and managing on of the most advanced networks in Europe, GEANT2. GEANT2 uses cutting edge technology to provide IP and wavelength services to the National Research Networks in Europe. GEANT2 uses Juniper and Alcatel equipment to provide these services.
DANTE is looking for a Level2 support engineer for shiftwork in its Network Operations Centre. The position is based in Cambridge and may involve occasional travel, mainly in Europe.
Responsibilities include:
- Review, assess and action customer requests and incident tickets created by the Level 1 NOC;
- Configure network routers, switches, transmission equipment and support devices as per standard procedures or as directed by Level 3 and Operations engineers;
- Monitor network status and troubleshoot issues related with network infrastructure, hardware and applications; create and update trouble tickets as required by standard procedures;
- Provide on call support for out of office hours;
- Assist with escalations as requested by Engineers or Management;
- Assist Level 3 and Operations engineers in collating, processing and presenting records and data.
Key Skills and Personal Profile
- Good technical and problem solving skills;
- Experience and/or qualifications in at least one of the following areas:
TCP/IP and routing
SDH and DWDM - Self-disciplined and self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and in a small team environment;
- Willingness and ability to learn to use new products and network technologies quickly, often without the focus of formalised training.
Previous experience of working in a Network Operations Centre is beneficial but not required..
