Network Engineer

DANTE (Delivery of Advanced Network Technology to Europe) plans, builds and operates advanced networks for research and education. We are seeking applications for the position of Network Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your Internet and transport network expertise and enhance your knowledge of advanced networking technology. You will join an international team working at the leading edge of European Wide Area Networking research, design and implementation.

The Role

The successful candidate will be expected to have a reasonable “all-round” working knowledge of either transport and transmission related technologies (e.g. carrier Ethernet, SONET/SDH, DWDM, etc) or IP/MPLS-layer technologies (IP/MPLS routers, routing protocols, etc). 

Some proven competence in Internet Protocols (including IPv6 and multicast), IP routing (IGPs/BGP), MPLS and related protocols, Synchronous and/or Asynchronous Switching and Transport, Advanced Optical Transmission, Telecommunications, Network Operations and Management Systems, ability to work with Network Statistics and systems for their collection
and basic Unix Scripting/Programming is required.

Candidates must have a high level of initiative, self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. You will be based in Cambridge with the requirement to travel within the UK, Europe and the US, to co-operate with international partners.
