GÉANT2 Training and Knowledge Transfer (NA8)

NA8 aims to provide the right training so that NRENs can make the most of GÉANT2 services by educating their people.

We are therefore building and delivering a series of training courses to support the transition to service of a number of GÉANT2 activities. The courses are designed to ensure that NREN staff are able to install, configure, use and troubleshoot GÉANT2 software. In recognition of the need to transfer knowledge to local and regional networks, many of the courses include a "train-the-trainer" component. NA8 also seeks to provide self-paced online training that members of the GÉANT2 community can follow wherever and whenever they have internet access.

Training Design, Development and Delivery Process

The following steps describe NA8's training design, development and delivery process.

Step 1: Training Needs Analysis

Seeks to answer the questions:

  • What software / processes require training?
  • Who requires training?
  • When is the training required?
  • How should it be delivered?

Outcome: overall training plan

Course Organisation

  • Identify and book venue
  • Invite and register participants
  • Organise refreshments
  • Make information available via website
    etc.
Step 2: Detailed Course Design

Determine course structure:

  • What will the topics be?
  • How should they be grouped?
  • What order should they be in?
  • What exercises are required?
  • What hardware and software is required?

Outcome: Course Specification document

Step 3: Course Development

Create:

  • Slide presentation
  • Diagrams
  • Exercises
  • Case studies
  • Assemble the technical environment

Outcome: slide presentation and course workbook

Step 4: Review and Rehearsal

Review: paper-based or electronic review of slide presentation and course workbook to assure technical accuracy and sound structure.

Rehearsal: chance for instructors to practice presentation and receive feedback in safe environment.

Step 5: Delivery The ‘live’ delivery. Participants complete evaluation forms at the end of the training.
Step 6: Enhancement Evaluation forms and other feedback are used to improve the course before its next delivery.
