Bandwidth on demand capabilities on display at SC07

A major step forward for networking will be delivered at this year’s SC07.  The Phoebus demonstration will show the use of end-user-controlled multi-domain bandwidth on demand – in other words, the ability for a network user to obtain, seamlessly and on demand, a dedicated end-to-end path stretching across different networks.  If applied on production networks, such a feature would deliver significant convenience and ease of use for the network user, representing an important advance in the level of service provided by advanced networks for users.

This ambitious demonstration is the result of a joint collaboration between research networking organisations Internet2 and ESnet in North America and the GÉANT2 AutoBAHN (bandwidth on demand) activity in Europe.  GÉANT2 partners actively involved are GRNET, HEAnet and PSNC, the research networks of Greece, Ireland and Poland respectively.

The demonstration can be seen at SC07 in Reno, Nevada, from 10-16 November, at the exhibition booths of GRNET (2527), PSNC (2603), Internet2 (2815) and ESnet (921).

Further information about SC07 and the exhibitors’ booths is available from http://sc07.supercomputing.org/ .
