eduroam Administrator Training: round two
Wednesday 15 October 2008, Cambridge: The second eduroam admin ‘train the trainers’ course was held on 29–30 September 2008, held at the training facility in the University Computing Centre (Srce) in Zagreb, Croatia.
Twelve eduroam administrators from eight different European countries (Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Slovakia, Slovenia and the UK) attended the two-part course aimed at equipping them with the necessary training to help them roll out similar training to their local institutions that still don’t have an eduroam service at their campus. This idea of training as many national representatives as possible in all European countries in order to filter the knowledge down locally, has been tried before with some success in other areas.
The first part of the course, led by Stefan Winter (RESTENA) was a practical guide on how to set up an organisation as an eduroam Service Provider (SP). The second part was led by Peter Webster, DANTE's training manager, and was designed to give the participants the necessary skills and knowledge to become professional and successful trainers.
The course has now trained representatives from a total of 17 different countries across Europe, all of whom are now enabled to provide eduroam setup instruction to those institutions who see the many benefits brought by the eduroam federated networking solution.
