Progress to Date in GÉANT2 Presented at TNC2005 in Poznan
The annual TERENA Networking Conference was hosted in Poznan, Poland by PSNC (Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Centre) and was the largest ever, with more delegates and more conference sessions than any previous TNC.
In recognition of the importance of the GÉANT2 project for European and global research networking, the conference included a number of presentations focussed on activities taking place within the project. The TNC is the major annual European conference for the networking community. The opportunity to represent the work of GÉANT2 to the TNC delegates was valuable and important to ensure the project's objectives and achievements are known, and to generate synergies by forming contacts with interested members of the community working in related areas.
The very wide range of the project is reflected in the distribution of these presentations throughout the conference programme, where they were grouped together with other talks on related subjects. The innovative network solution arrived at for GÉANT2 was presented in plenary session, while the network operations challenges this poses were also discussed in other presentations.
In an international context, initiatives to develop global research networking cooperation were presented, while action to tackle the digital divide within Europe were also described. The development of network services such as bandwidth on demand, security, roaming and mobility, network performance, and monitoring and diagnosis (in the form of the GÉANT2 PERT) were all described. Support services relating to users were also presented, looking at the technical user support angle and also at the challenge of identifying, reaching and understanding network users.
The presentation slides are all available from the Document Library in the GÉANT2 Media Centre; archived video streams of all the presentations at the conference are available by selecting an individual session from the conference programme and clicking on the 'video stream' button.
DANTE, on behalf of the GÉANT2 project, would like to thank TERENA and the TNC Programme Committee for their support and cooperation in achieving this high level of representation of GÉANT2.
