Point-to-Point Circuits
GÉANT2 offers two distinct classes of point-to-point services to NRENs requiring dedicated international circuits:
- the GÉANT+ service
- full wavelength (10Gbps) services
The subset of GÉANT2 participants connected by dark fibre (and therefore able to receive point-to-point services) are described as being "within the GEANT2 fibre cloud". At present, these comprise:
- ACOnet (Austria)
- ARNES (Slovenia)
- BELNET (Belgium)
- CARNet (Croatia)
- CESNET (Czech Republic)
- DFN (Germany)
- GARR (Italy)
- HEAnet (Ireland)
- NIIF (Hungary)
- NORDUnet (Nordic region)
- PSNC (Poland –currently GÉANT+ service only)
- RedIRIS (Spain)
- RENATER (France)
- SANET (Slovakia)
- SURFnet (Netherlands)
- SWITCH (Switzerland)
- UKERNA (United Kingdom)
GÉANT+
All NRENs subscribing to GÉANT+ have a pre-paid quota of 10Gbps of GÉANT+ capacity. In practice, this means that up to nine Gigabit Ethernet circuits (or equivalent) can be requested at short notice to any combination of NRENs within the GÉANT2 fibre cloud. GÉANT+ circuits can be configured rapidly - usually within a few days of order confirmation.
Full Wavelength (10Gbps) Services
Full-capacity 10Gbps wavelengths can also be ordered between any two fibre-cloud GÉANT2 points-of-presence. Provisioning of GÉANT2 10Gbps
circuits require the ordering of transponders and possibly additional equipment. As such, delivery of full wavelengths is normally 14 weeks from confirmation of an order.
