  • 22 August 2006[pdf] PERT Performance Guides (DS3.3.3) (431 Kb)
In addition to investigating specific cases of poor network performance, the GÉANT2 Performance Enhancement and Response Team (PERT) also populate and maintain the PERT Knowledgebase, an online resource for advice and information about all aspects of network performance. Information in this document has been extracted from the PERT Knowledgebase. It serves as a two-art (basic/advanced) guide to network performance issues. We present the fundamentals of network performance, and then look at ways of investigating and remedying problems on end-systems. We finish with several case studies which demonstrate the effects of the issues previously examined.
  • 15 August 2006[pdf] PERT Troubleshooting Procedures - 2nd Edition (DS3.5.2) (1985 Kb)
These performance trouble Ticket Procedures are divided into two main sections. The first section if 'Operational Guidelines'. This section looks at the different types of PERT users, and gives guidance on how to conduct a PERT investigation. The second section is a detailed user guide for the PERT Ticket System (PTS). The PTS allows end-users to create themselves an account on t he PTS and then to request help with possible network performance problems
  • 4 May 2006[pdf] Report on Performance Monitoring Tools (DS3.7.3) (211 Kb)
In this report it is described how an array of performance monitoring devices has been deployed and set to work in the GÉANT2 network. the report begins with an overview of the different types of network performance metrics of interest to the GÉANT2 project and then looks at what tools were initially available to meet our needs. The evaluation processes used to select systems for deployment are then explained, and some of the issues discovered during testing are examined. Finally, the improvements and enhancements planned for future releases of the chosen applications are presented.
  • 25 August 2005[pdf] GÉANT2 Performance Enhancement and Response Team (PERT) User Guide and Best Practice Guide (DS3.3.2) (644 Kb)
The content of the PERT Knowledgebase has been used to produce two reference documents.
