Bandwidth on Demand Deliverables

The links below provide access to the outputs (or formal notification of their completion) of the Bandwidth on Demand Joint Research Activity. These have been presented to the European Commission as "deliverables", to provide evidence of the project's progress.

For a full list of all Deliverables published by the project, please visit the Deliverables section of the Document Library in this site's Media Centre.

  • 19 September 2006[pdf] Second Review of Bandwidth on Demand Technologies (DJ3.2.2,2) (4253 Kb)
This deliverable is an update of DJ3.2.2 "Initial Review of Technologies Related to the Provision of Bandwidth-on-Demand (BoD) Services". It focuses on i) updating and improving technical information with projects that bear similarities with GN2-JRA3 ii) stating the results of the collaboration among GN2-JRA3 and these projects and iii) updating information on relevant standardisation activities and their applicability to GN2-JRA3.
  • 11 September 2006[pdf] Technical Specification of the IDM Prototype (DJ3.4.1) (1037 Kb)
This document describes the design specification for the IDM module prototype of the Bandwidth on Demand system developed by the GÉANT2 JRA3 activity. The prototype is a proof of concept of the design, information flow control and reservation processing on both inter-domain and intra-domain levels with an initial focus on the Inter-Domain Manager (IDM). The scope of this work is to implement and test the key modules and functionalities, which need to be studied before building a fully operational system. However the prototype is engineered so as to comprise the basis for further system development. It has been designed as a test machine, to allow easy discovery of system weaknesses and potential problems at the early stages of the system development. In the first part of the deliverable, the building blocks of the prototype as organized in packages and classes are documented in full detail, while in the second part the relationships between classes/objects are documented using sequence diagrams.
  • 9 June 2006[pdf] Functional Specification of GÉANT2 Inter-domain Manager (IDM) Prototype (DJ3.3.2) (427 Kb)
The Bandwidth on Demand service, as defined in the context of the GN2 project, aims at providing a guaranteed capacity, connection oriented service between two end points. The overall BoD service architecture is described in Deliverable DJ3.3.1, 'GÉANT2 Initial Bandwidth on Demand Framework and Architecture'. This deliverable specifies a key module of the JRA3 BoD system: the Inter-Domain Manager. Part A reports its functional specifications and Part B its implementation specifications with specific details for its first release, named as Prototype or Phase 0. The Pathfinder algorithms specifications are still in a draft stage and are not detailed. The abstract notation specification is detailed, and a subset will be implemented in the IDM prototype. A fast prototyping cycle of the implementation is currently underway in order to evaluate open issues and validate the specifications
  • 20 December 2005[pdf] Definition of Bandwidth on Demand Framework and General Architecture (DJ3.3.1) (447 Kb)
The Bandwidth on Demand service, as defined inthe context of the GN2 project, aims at providing a guaranteed capacity, connection oriented service between two end points. the deliverable elaborates on a technical framework and draft architecture for the service to be deployed in a large multi-domain network with multiple transport technologies. This document outlines a BoD service architecture, which is sufficiently detailed to allow the first phase of implementation using manual or semi-automated procedures. It is expected that refinement and improvements will result from the feedback of the implementation experience.
  • 31 August 2005[pdf] Initial Review of Technologies Related to the Provision of Bandwidth-on-Demand (BoD) Services (DJ3.2.2) (1325 Kb)
The objective of this deliverable is to present a comprehensive study of the state-of-the-art of technologies related to the provision of Bandwidth-on-Demand services and to examine their feasibility for use within the GN2 project.
  • 14 June 2005[pdf] Bandwidth on Demand User and Application Survey (DJ3.2.1) (227 Kb)
The objective of this deliverable is to identify key Bandwidth on Demand (BoD) requirements of advanced applications that exist at the beginning of GN2, in order to provide a comprehensive overview of user perceptions of what a BoD service should offer them. This information will be a valuable input for the GN2 BoD service specification process within JRA3 Work Item 3 (WI-03).
