Almost 150 members of the global research networking community gathered for the “GÉANT2 – A Global Leader” event in Bled, Slovenia, on 3-4 March, to celebrate the achievements of GÉANT2, and to present a vision for the future of research networking.
Opening with a “Dream”
Representing the host country, Mojca Kucler Dolinar (The Slovenian Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology), in her welcome note described the particular importance of GÉANT2 to the Slovenian research community.
The event was then officially opened by Commissioner Viviane Reding (Member of the European Commission with responsibility for Information Society and Media) who spoke of “developing the internet of the future”, and her “dream” for unlimited communications capacities for the research and education community. She sees this dream as well on its way to being achieved by GÉANT2, not least due to its innovative and extensive hybrid network topology.
