GÉANT Plus  The GÉANT Plus service allows user access to point-to-point circuits of between 155 Mbps and 10 Gbps across an existing pre-provisioned network. It enables projects and researchers to link end-to-end across multiple domains and provides a flexible “private line” service. Local NRENs and GEANT2 are responsible for creating these links on behalf of a specific user request.

A GÉANT Plus circuit provides guaranteed bandwidth and deterministic performances at modest cost. GÉANT Plus is built on common infrastructure, but appears to its private users to be dedicated to that user’s needs. This combines the privacy and availability advantages of a private circuit with the cost efficiency of a shared network. This service is very useful for projects with participants in multiple locations who wish to co-operate as if they were operating over  the same local network.

Features of GÉANT Plus

  • GÉANT Plus provides dedicated sub-wavelength point-to-point circuits configured over a network of dark fibre links and TDM (Time-Division Multiplexed) switches.
  • The allocated capacity of each NREN may be used flexibly for different services to multiple locations.
  • A circuit can be configured or reconfigured on the GÉANT Plus interface (where GEANT2 links connect to the local NREN) at short notice
  • GÉANT Plus circuits can be established to many European NRENs and also allow NRENs to configure transatlantic circuits to the GÉANT point-of-presence in New York (connecting to Internet2, ESnet and USLHCnet).

The GÉANT IP service is available to pan-European projects and users via Europe’s NRENs. The following table directs you to the corresponding service provider in your area.
